Take a tour with curator Diane Shewchuk and get a glimpse behind-the-scenes at the oldest museum in New York State.

Beer & The Erie Canal: 2017 Hudson Valley Hops

21 and over: Saturday, April 8 • 4:00pm - 7:00pm

This fun, regional craft beer and cider tasting is a fundraiser for the Albany Institute of History & Art and it's an opportunity for the community to see brewing and distilling artifacts from the museum's collection, hear from industry experts, and receive a commemorative glass.

MEMBER EVENT Annual Meeting

Members are invited to join the AIHA Board of Trustees for a reception with light refreshments followed by an illustrated review of 2016.

Then, join the curatorial staff for a special tour of the exhibition New to the Collections and get a sneak peek at some of the 2017 acquisitions to the collection.

Home for the Holidays: Free Thanksgiving Weekend

Come to the Albany Institute this Thanksgiving weekend for a variety of holiday themed programs and events. We'll be decked out in winter wonder and ready to welcome you and your out-of-town guests!

  • Visit with a live reindeer (12-4pm on Friday and 11am-3pm on Saturday)
  • Take your photograph with Santa (12-4pm Friday—Sunday)
  • Discover decorated trees and mantlepieces
  • Admire a special exhibition of miniature dioramas by Joan Steiner, an award-winning illustrator and creator of the Look-Alikes® books
  • Make handmade ornaments (Opening-4:30)
  • Shop for handmade items and one-of-a-kind gifts in our Museum Shop

Hudson Valley and New York City resident Patrick Harbron began his career photographing the icons of rock and roll. From Blondie to The Who, Harbron has captured these artists and many others at pivotal moments in their careers. Now, explore more than 70 of his concert and portrait photographs of influential musicians from the 1970s and 1980s. This exhibition also includes some of Harbron's concert posters, memorabilia, and souvenirs, as well as guitars from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Celebrating 225 Years of History & Art

Join us for the 5th annual Work of Art fundraiser!

Preview our upcoming exhibition Rock & Roll Icons: Photographs by Patrick Harbron, savor delicious hors d’oeuvres by Mazzone Catering courtesy of John J. Nigro, and enjoy music by Peg and Bill Delaney.

This event features a contemporary art auction with a wide selection of pieces by local artists. Bid in this silent auction to spruce up your own home or find the perfect gift, all while supporting local artists and the Albany Institute.*

2016 Museum Gala

Please join us and be a part of the 2016 Annual Museum Gala.

This year marks the 225th anniversary of the Albany Institute of History & Art. It is with pleasure that the museum announces its 2016 Gala will celebrate the Albany Institute’s 225th anniversary and founding in 1791, when George Washington was President.  Our 2016 Museum Gala will be held on Saturday June 11, 2016 at the estate of our gracious hosts, Catherine and Bernard Conners, in Loudonville, New York.

This not-to-be missed evening will begin with cocktails and a viewing of the Belmont Stakes followed by a lovely seated dinner by Mazzone Catering. Throughout the night, auctions with auctioneer Dr. Mark Fruiterman, performance, and dancing  accompanied by the Silver Arrow Band will create a truly memorable event as we support a worthy cause.
